Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
Fort Wayne, IN -- The TinCaps beat the Dayton Dragons, 5-3, in front of a crowd of 7,313 on Sunday afternoon at Parkview Field to extend their longest winning streak of the season to seven games. With three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, Fort Wayne picked up its 13th come-from-behind win of the year.
After it took the TinCaps until the 12th inning to score their first run in Saturday's victory, Fort Wayne (38-23) wasted no time finding offense on Sunday. Luis Tejada drove home Corey Adamson with a single in the bottom of the first inning against Dayton (26-36) starter Nick Travieso.
Meanwhile, behind starting pitcher Max Fried, the TinCaps carried their 1-0 lead into the fifth inning. But in the top of the fifth, the Dragons capitalized on two TinCaps errors to move ahead, 2-1. Fort Wayne, however, equalized things, 2-2, in the ensuing half-inning with an unearned run of their own.
Although Dayton jumped in front again, 3-2, with a run in the top of the eighth inning, Fort Wayne responded in the bottom half. Dragons reliever Wandy Peralta walked Rodney Daal to begin the frame. Brian Adams then put down a sacrifice bunt that Dayton catcher Brandon Dailey fielded and mis-threw to second base, allowing Daal and Adams to reach second and first safely, respectively. Four batters later, with the bases loaded and two outs and Sean Lucas pitching, Diego Goris hit a one-hopper to shortstop that Zach Vincej misplayed, enabling both Daal and Adams to score. Tejada followed with an RBI-single to plate Maxx Tissenbaum and give the TinCaps a 5-3 lead. Leonel Campos threw a scoreless ninth inning for Fort Wayne to earn his fifth save of the year.
The TinCaps hold a 5 1/2 game lead over Bowling Green for the wild-card spot. The TinCaps have eight games remaining in the half, and their magic number to clinch a playoff berth is three games. Any combination of wins by the TinCaps or losses by the Hot Rods equaling three means Fort Wayne will clinch the berth.
The TinCaps and Dragons concluded their three-game series at Parkview Field on Monday night. Justin Hancock (3-1, 1.91) is set to start for Fort Wayne against Dayton's Drew Cisco (2-3, 3.32). The game can be seen on XFINITY Channel 81, as well as heard on The Fan 1380 and TheFanFortWayne.com.
