Burlington Bees News Release

Dayton Alexander scored three runs to help lead the Beloit Snappers to a 6-1 win over the Burlington Bees on Saturday night at Community Field.

The Snappers (36-25) entered tonight's contest in the middle of a hotly contested playoff race and they played like a team in need of a win, scoring six runs on nine hits to defeat the Bees (23-33) in front of a great crowd of 2,527 fans.

Patrick Lowery (2-3) struggled with his control in his 4.1 innings, issuing four walks, along with five hits. In the second, Lowery walked Matt Olson and with two outs, Ryan Matthews delivered a double to bring home the first run of the game.

Beloit added one more in the third when Alexander singled to start the inning and came home on a Bruce Maxwell single to right field.

Lowery walked Alexander to start the fifth and got the first out of the inning on a sacrifice bunt by Brett Vertigan. The next batter, Daniel Robertson, doubled home Alexander and ended Lowery's night.

Cameron Bedrosian left Robertson on base in the fifth, but he allowed three runs in the sixth. The Snappers took a 6-0 lead after five and a half innings.

The Bees struggled to get anything going against Seth Streich (6-3). The right-hander cruised through his first five innings, not allowing anyone to cross the plate until Kyle Johnson smacked his second home run of the season to lead off the inning.

Austin Adams and Jairo Diaz combined to deliver three scoreless innings out of the bullpen.

Burlington and Beloit will square off in a doubleheader on Sunday that begins at 1 p.m. In game one, Reid Scoggins will face Vince Voiro.
