Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - With a three-game series sweep on the line, the Fort Wayne TinCaps came up short Sunday, losing 4-2 against the Lake County Captains. TinCaps starter Colin Rea gave up four runs over the first three innings, which proved to be too large a deficit for Fort Wayne to overcome.
Rea (1-4) allowed a single run in the first as Jordan Smith singled home Francisco Lindor. A second-inning homer by designated hitter Alex Lavisky extended the Lake County advantage to 2-0. In the third, Luigi Rodriguez and Patric Tolentino singled home runs, giving the Captains a 4-0 edge. Rea was pulled after three innings, his shortest of his eight starting outings. He surrendered five hits, walked two and struck out one.
Fort Wayne (2-1, 33-40) scored in the fifth inning on a Kyle Gaedele RBI single, making the score 4-1. The other run allowed by Lake County (1-2, 32-40) was in the ninth, when Duanel Jones connected on a single to plate Mike Gallic.
Joe Colon (6-7) earned the victory for the Captains, as he worked six innings, allowing seven hits and one earned run. He walked one and struck out six. Dennis O'Grady provided four innings of scoreless relief after Rea's outing, and James Needy did not allow a run over the last two innings.
Both clubs tallied double-digit hits, but not many extra base hits. Of the 10 Lake County hits, all but Lavisky's home run were singles. Of the 11 Fort Wayne hits, all but three were singles. Lake County enjoyed success on the basepaths, stealing seven bases in eight tries.
The TinCaps open a three-game series with Lansing on Monday evening at 7:05 at Parkview Field. The scheduled starters are Matt Wisler for Fort Wayne and Justin Nicolino for the Lugnuts.
