Lugs enjoy 13-6 cakewalk over wild Loons

LANSING, Mich. - The patient Lansing Lugnuts (2-1, 49-23) took advantage of seven consecutive walks in a nine-run fifth inning of a 13-6 victory over the Great Lakes Loons (1-2, 35-38) on Sunday afternoon at Cooley Law School Stadium.
The Lugnuts trailed 3-2 heading to the fifth inning but Lansing reclaimed the lead when Kenny Wilson (1-for-3, double, two runs, two RBI, stolen base) delivered an RBI double and Shane Opitz knocked out Loons' starter Arismendy Ozoria (Loss, 4-4) with an RBI single to give Lansing a 4-3 lead.
Jose Dominguez entered the game out of the Loons' bullpen and served up a pair of two-out singles to Jon Berti and Kevin Pillar before issuing four straight walks, the last two with the bases loaded. Juan Rodriguez relieved Dominguez and promptly issued three consecutive bases-loaded walks of his own, turning the game into a surreal rout.
The half-inning took 44 minutes to complete.
The Lugnuts' Anthony DeSclafani (Win, 6-1) tossed a career-high-tying five innings and allowed just two hits while striking out five and walking one.
Kramer Champlin threw two scoreless innings out of the Lansing 'pen and struck out five Loons. Blake McFarland worked the final two innings to close out the Lugs victory, serving up a Joe Winker three-run homer in the ninth.
Every Lugnut who played in the ballgame reached base and either scored a run or drove in a run. Aaron Munoz led the way with two doubles, three RBI and two runs scored in four at-bats; Kevin Pillar added a 3-for-4 showing with two RBI, two stolen bases and two runs.
Lansing shortstop Andy Burns and manager John Tamargo Jr. were ejected from the game in the fourth inning arguing a controversial foul ball call that they believed hit Burns in the hand. It was the second time this season Tamargo has been ejected, the first time for Burns.
The Lugnuts open a season-long nine-game road trip in Fort Wayne on Monday, June 25th at 7:05 p.m. against the TinCaps. Lefty Justin Nicolino (2-0, 1.21) will start for the Lugs opposite fellow All-Star Matt Wisler (2-3, 2.34), representing Fort Wayne.
