Lake County Captains News Release
(Fort Wayne, IN) - The Lake County Captains (1-2, 32-40) defeated The Fort Wayne TinCaps (2-1, 33-40) by a final of 4-2. Joe Colon (6-7) pitched six innings for the Captains and he scattered seven hits allowed one earned run, he earned the win on the afternoon. Colon walked one and struck out six. The Captains bullpen held the TinCaps to one run and won the game 4-2. Lake County improves their record on Sunday's to 3-8. The Captains had a season high seven stolen bases in the ballgame on Sunday afternoon.
Lake County scored first in the ballgame. In the top of the first inning, Francisco Lindor singled to center field and then stole his 15th base of the season when he swiped second base. Lindor moved to third on a groundout by Luigi Rodriguez and then scored on a two out single by Jordan Smith and it was 1-0 Captains. In the second inning Alex Lavisky crushed his fifth homerun of the season to deep left field and Lake County lead the ballgame 2-0 heading to the third inning.
In the third inning, Lake County put up two more runs. Francisco Lindor walked and stole second base and later scored on a single by Rodriguez. Rodriguez then stole second base and scored on a two out base hit by Patric Tolentino and Lake County led 4-0.
Fort Wayne got on the board in the fifth inning. Duanel Jones doubled, Kyle Gaedele singled on the infield on a slow roller to second, and Jones motored all the way around from second to score and Fort Wayne trailed by three runs the score was 4-1 Captains after five innings.
RHP Colin Rea (1-4) took to the mound for Fort Wayne and took the loss. Rea only pitched three innings, and allowed five hits four earned runs, he walked two and struck out one. Dennis O'Grady pitched four innings, he allowed three hits and struck out one. James Needy pitched the final two innings for Fort Wayne, and did not allow a run.
The Captains bullpen entered in the seventh inning starting with Manny Carmona. Carmona pitched one inning, Carmona walked one and struck out two. LHP Kyle Petter entered in the eighth inning for Lake County and struck out the side. Petter stayed out for the ninth inning and allowed three hits and one run. With two outs in the ninth inning Jeff Johnson entered to try to earn the one out save, after a base hit by Austin Hedges, Johnson retired Gaedele on a fielders choice to end the ballgame.
The Captains will continue the six game road trip Monday Night in Dayton, Ohio vs. the Dragons. Lake County will send RHP Cody Anderson (4-4, 3.12) to the hill. The Dragons will counter with LHP Tanner Robles (4-4, 4.50) who will get the start. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00pm
