Great Lakes Loons News Release

LANSING, MI - Entering Sunday's game against the Lansing Lugnuts, Great Lakes Loons pitchers led the league in total walks (with 300). But at no point this season has the Loons pitching staff had a bout of wildness like they had in the fifth inning of Sunday's 13-6 loss to Lansing.

In the frame, Loons pitchers walked seven consecutive batters, an inning in which Lansing scored nine runs. Between the fifth and sixth innings, nine of 10 straight batters drew free passes.

Five of the runs (four earned) were charged to the game's losing pitcher Arismendy Ozoria (4-4), but he walked just one, a fourth inning free pass to K.C. Hobson. Ozoria began the fifth and recorded an out but allowed three straight hits and was taken out in favor of Jose Dominguez. After getting an out against Chris Hawkins and what should have been the final out on a grounder misplayed by shortstop Delvis Morales, Dominguez surrendered a hit followed by four straight walks.

Juan Rodriguez replaced him and walked three straight before inducing an inning-ending ground out. Rodriguez walked the next two batters to begin the sixth.

Joe Winker added a three-run home run in the ninth, his seventh blast of the year, snapping a 0-for-12 skid. The Loons committed three errors in the game.

The Loons led entering the top of the fifth inning, 3-2. Kevin Taylor's RBI single in the third tied the score, 2-2. Pratt Maynard followed in the fourth with a sac fly to give the Loons a one-run advantage.

Anthony DiSclafani (6-1) recorded the win with five innings of work, allowing two earned runs.

The Loons (1-2 second half, 35-38 overall) begin a three-game series Monday against the South Bend Silver Hawks (2-1, 37-36). Game time is 7:05pm. Right-hander Gustavo Gomez (4-6, 5.35 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Loons against Silver Hawks righty Jesse Darrah (5-3, 4.33) The game will be broadcast live on ESPN 100.9-FM and ESPN1009.com.

The Great Lakes Loons are a sixth-year Single-A partner of the Los Angeles Dodgers and are in the middle of their 5th Anniversary Celebration, which kicked off in August 2011 and will continue throughout the 2012 season.
