TinCaps Late Rally Hands Bees 4-2 Loss
May 2, 2013 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Burlington Bees News Release
One night after falling short in the ninth, the Burlington Bees allowed two runs to the Fort Wayne TinCaps in the ninth to fall 4-2 on Thursday afternoon at Community Field.
Lady luck has not been on the Bees (9-14) side so far this year as the TinCaps (15-10) used three hits in the ninth to hand the Bees their second consecutive loss in the series. Gabriel Quintana led off the ninth with a single off of Joey Krehbiel. Luis Tejada popped up a bunt over Sherman Johnson's head. Jeremy Baltz followed with a double that scored both Quintana and Tejada.
The Bees were behind 2-1 heading to the eighth, and tied the score thanks to a single by Sandy Martinez that scored Kevin Moesquit. Moesquit reached on a fielder's choice and advanced all the way to third on a throwing error by Erik Cabrera. Roman Madrid (2-0) delivered a perfect ninth to pick up the win, while Krehbiel (1-1) was handed the loss.
The TinCaps got on the board first, scoring two runs in the third against Ryan Crowley. Brian Adams led off with a single and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Corey Adamson that was thrown wide of first base, allowing Adamson to reach. That put two men in scoring position for Alberth Martinez, who singled home both Adams and Adamson.
Crowley once again put together a stellar outing, firing six innings of two-run ball, with only one of the two runs earned against the southpaw. He struck out a season-high eight batters in the outing.
The Bees were only able to put together one run against TinCaps starter, Justin Hancock. Hancock started for Max Fried, who was scratched with an illness. In the fifth, Wade Hinkle singled to start the inning and advanced on a wild pitch. Two batters later, Chevy Clarke singled home Hinkle to put the Bees on the board.
The Bees will try to avoid a series sweep when they take on the TinCaps on Friday evening. Alex Keudell will oppose Zach Eflin at 6:30 p.m. at Community Field.
