THURSDAY: Nick Margevicius threw 7 scoreless innings in the TinCaps first shutout win of 2018 to beat the West Michigan Whitecaps, 3-0. Tirso Ornelas went 3-for-4 with 2 doubles, his first triple of the season, an RBI, and a run scored. Luis Almanzar also chipped in going 2-for-4 with 2 doubles and an RBI. All 7 hits for Fort Wayne were extra bases as the team tallied 6 doubles and 1 triple.

FEELING EXTRA: The TinCaps hit a season-high 6 doubles on Thursday. With a triple as well, Fort Wayne matched its season high with 7 extra-base hits. The TinCaps also tallied 7 XBHs on April 13 in a 13-2 win @ Bowling Green. Individually, Tirso Ornelas became the first TinCap this season to have 3 extra-base hits in a game with his 2 doubles and a triple.

BLOOMING IN MAY: Mason Thompson holds a 2.21 ERA in the month of May in 4 appearances, with 3 starts. Thompson held a 11.85 ERA after 4 starts in the month of April, but since, he has pitched in 20.1 innings, allowing 12 hits, 5 earned runs, while collecting 17 strikeouts and holding opponents to a .171 average. The native of Round Rock, Texas, appeared in his 8th game of the season last start on May 19, which is the most appearances he has made professional season after he was held to only 7 appearances last season with Fort Wayne due to injury.

LEAGUE LEADERS: Jeisson Rosario is 4th in OBP (.418), tied for 4th in walks (34), tied for 6th in runs (31)... Esteury Ruiz is tied for 8th in triples (3)... Nick Margevicius is 2nd in Ks (5), 6th in ERA (2.35).

ADVANCED STATS LEAGUE LEADERS: Jeisson Rosario is 6th in Line Drive % (29%), 6th in BB% (21%), and 11th in BB/K (0.87)... Luis Campusano has the 9th lowest K% (13%).

ROAD WOES: The TinCaps are 14-11 at Parkview Field this year and 7-14 on the road. Fort Wayne has hit .252 at home compared to .216 on the road. The team actually has a better ERA on the road with a 4.19 mark compared to a 4.52 ERA at home.

THE ROAD AHEAD: The TinCaps are on an 8-game road trip with after 4 against the Whitecaps now followed by 4 against the Lansing Lugnuts. This is Fort Wayne's longest road trip of the first half. The team's longest trip of the season will come Aug. 18-27 when they are scheduled for 10 consecutive road games at Lansing (3), Great Lakes (3), and South Bend (4).

HAPPY BIRTHDAY: TinCaps reliever Evan Miller turned 23 on Wednesday. The LaPorte, Ind., native who went to IPFW has plenty to celebrate of late. The righty has posted 0.56 ERA across 9 outings this year (16.0 IP).

AROUND THE FARM: On Thursday, 2017 TinCap Buddy Reed went 1-for-3 with 2 R, 2 BB, RBI, 2 SB yesterday in Lake's Elsinore's 10-7 loss. Reed has now stolen 21 bases on 23 attempts this season. Another 2017 TinCap, Fernando Tatis Jr., went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI in the Missions' 10-1 win. Tatis Jr. is now hitting .340 in May after hitting .177 in the first month of the season. 2015 TinCap Luis Urias went 2-for-4 with double, run scored, & RBI in El Paso's 3-2 victory. Urias is hitting .375 in his last 10 games with the Chihuahuas.
