
River Bandits Edge Chiefs 3-2 in Series Opener

Davenport, IA - The Peoria Chiefs cut the Quad Cities River Bandits lead to one run twice but could not get over the hump in a 3-2 loss on Friday night. The Chiefs drop to 24-21 overall on the season with a doubleheader scheduled for Saturday beginning at 5:35 p.m.
The River Bandits jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first inning on Chiefs starter Evan Guillory. Jonathan Arauz singled to center with one out and Miguelangel Sierra tripled on a two-out line drive to left as Arauz scored for a 1-0 lead.
A lead off walk to Michael Papierski came back to haunt the Chiefs in the bottom of the second. Papierski moved to second on a wild pitch. With one out Jonathan Lacroix advanced Papierski to third on a ground ball and he scored on a single to left field by Roman Garcia.
Down 2-0, the Chiefs got on the board in the top of the fifth against River Bandits starter Peter Solomon. Nick Plummer and Bryce Denton both singled to put two runners on. Jose Martinez ripped a single to center to score Plummer from second as the deficit was cut in half 2-1.
Quad Cities tacked on another run in the bottom of the sixth. Arauz led off with triple to the gap in left center and Corey Julks walked to put runners at the corners. Sierra delivered again with a single to right to score Arauz for a 3-1 advantage.
The Chiefs answered in the top of the seventh against River Bandits reliever Tyler Ivey. Denton singled with one out and moved to third on a single from Martinez. With Irving Lopez at the plate, a passed ball to the backstop scored Denton as the lead was trimmed to 3-2.
Guillory (4-3) took the loss going 5 2/3 innings allowing three runs on eight hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Andrew Summerville threw 2 1/3 scoreless innings allowing no hits with two walks and three strikeouts.
Notes... The Chiefs are 9-7 in one-run games and have lost back-to-back one-run games... Peoria is 8-12 when scoring four runs or less and 20-6 when allowing four runs or less...Denton has 11 multi-hit games...Gonzalez has 10 multi-hit games...The Chiefs have been outscored 38-22 in the first inning this season...
