ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The TinCaps fell in the first game of their three-game series with the Dayton Dragons, 14-7, on a mid-80s and sunny night for baseball at Parkview Field. The Dragons raced out to a 13-0 lead entering the bottom of the second inning, and the 'Caps couldn't climb out of the gargantuan hole the rest of the game.
PACKING THE PARK: 7,924 fans filled Parkview Field on Saturday night, the 10th sellout crowd of the season. The crowds in Fort Wayne have been fantastic recently-over the last six home games (dating back to July 18), the average attendance at Parkview Field has been 6,669 fans. The crowds are even more impressive considering the heat wave that has swept the Midwest this month. During the past six games at Parkview Field, the average first-pitch temperature has been 86 degrees.
DWS, OBP: Dwanya Williams-Sutton enters today's game on a 15-game on-base streak, a season long for the outfielder. Since July 5, he's batting .293 with a .500 on-base percentage. He had multiple hits in all 3 games during the Bowling Green series and has reached base at least twice in 5 of the last 6 games. The outfielder now has a .405 on-base percentage this season, tops among all TinCaps with at least 50 games played in OBP this season. The outfielder doesn't quite qualify for the Midwest League leaders due to missing a few weeks in June with a sprained left wrist, but if he did, he would lead the MWL in on-base percentage.
BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE: Dwanya has also drawn 40 walks this season (second on the TinCaps) and been hit by a pitch a Midwest League-leading 19 times. He already ranks second in franchise history for hit by pitches in a season. (The record is 23, set by Jon Schaeffer in 1998.)
MAKING HIS MARK: Infielder Tucupita Marcano has shown exceptional bat control throughout this season, owning the lowest K% in the MWL at 8.8% and the 2nd-lowest swinging strike% at 4.2%. The 19-year-old has been particularly consistent at the plate over the past month, slashing .306/.342/.378 since June 27 (26 games) with 12 RBIs. Marcano has struck out just 7 times during this span.
A SHINING SCARLET KNIGHT: Center fielder Jawuan Harris is on an 11-game on-base streak. Over the past 11 games (dating back to July 15), the former Rutgers star is slashing .366/.458/.561 (OPS of 1.019) with 2 doubles, 2 homers, 10 RBIs, and 6 stolen bases. For the year, Harris ranks 3rd in the MWL in BB% (15.9%) and 3rd in stolen bases (25). During the previous six-game home stand, Harris had a hit in each game, slashing .435/.519/.739 (OPS of 1.258) with 10 total hits.
BULLDOG WITH BITE: Michael Curry has been swinging an powerful bat over the past three weeks. Since July 7th, the former Georgia Bulldog is slashing .333/.393/.569 (OPS of .962) at the plate with 3 doubles, 3 HRs and 13 RBIs. Curry smacked a two-run home run on Saturday night, snapping a 10-game streak without a home run. The outfielder now has seven dingers this season, second on the TinCaps.
LET'S GET LOUD: Justin Lopez hit a three-run home run on Saturday night, his team-leading ninth home run this season. The 19-year-old had not homered since July 2nd, a 19-game span. Lopez enters Sunday's game riding a six-game hitting streak.
IN CONTROL: TinCaps pitchers have walked the fewest batters in the MWL this season, averaging just 2.9 walks per 9 innings. Fort Wayne also has the best ratio of strikeouts to walks (3.15).
ANOTHER ONE: Moises Lugo was added to the TinCaps roster earlier today-he is the 46th different TinCap this season (20 position players, 26 pitchers).
