Beloit Sky Carp News Release

BELOIT, WI - The Beloit Snappers swept both sides of a doubleheader tonight using some timely hitting and excellent pitching. The Snappers won game 1 by a score of 4-1 behind some great pitching and used a walk-off 2-run shot to steal the second game 4-3.

In Game 1, it was a low hit affair, but it would not take a lot of hits as Beloit won 4-1 against the Bandits in the first game of the doubleheader. Beloit only collected 5 hits but received excellent pitching to hold Quad Cities to just 4 hits and 6 baserunners the entire game.

Beloit would get the scoring started putting up an early run right out of the gates. In the first, Max Schuemann would start the hitting off with a double right to lead things off. Then, after a wild pitch that would hit the backstop and bounce to third base, Schuemann would use his wheels to score all the way from second base scoring the Snappers first run of the game.

After Quad Cities answered back with a run of their own in the third, the Beloit bats would erupt with 3 runs in the fifth inning to take the 4-1 advantage.

In the fifth, Joseph Pena walked and Max Schuemann reached on a sacrifice bunt and a defensive miscue to put runners on first and second with no outs. Moments later, Devin Foyle singled up the middle to load the bases with no outs and set the stage for the heart of the order.

With Payton Squier now in the batter's box, he would launch a ball down left field plating both Pena and Schuemann propelling the Snappers lead to 3-1. Just one batter later, Nick Osborne hit a fly ball to rightfield plating Foyle for a sacrifice fly and a 4-1 lead.

The 4-1 lead would be all Snappers pitching would need, as they would lock down to preserve the 4-1 victory in Game 1.

On the mound, Rafael Kelly would get start and was absolutely masterful throwing 6 solid innings for a quality start and a win. Kelly's night would end giving up just one solitary run and four hits, while punching out four and not walking a soul.

Charlie Cerny would come into the game in relief after Kelly and slam the door shut on the River Bandits earning his sixth save of the season. Cerny would pick up right where Kelly left off giving up no runs and no hits completing the victory for the Snappers in the day game.

In the nightcap, Beloit would use some late-inning heroics to win by a final score of 4-3. Nick Osborne would launch a 2-run homer over the right-centerfield wall to not only take the lead for the Snappers but complete the two-game sweep this evening.

Beloit would get the scoring started early once again today with another run right out of the gates. It would be the dynamic duo of Schuemann and Pena once more, as Schuemann would double to open up and Pena would knock him in moments later to give the Snappers the 1-0 lead.

Then the Snappers would get the big fly going crushing two blasts in the ballgame. In the sixth inning, John Jones would dig in and launch a ball over the right-field wall to push the Snappers out to a 2-1 lead late in this ballgame.

However, Quad Cities would not go down quietly, as they would plate runs in the seventh and the eighth to tie the game and eventually take the lead. But those strong Snappers bats would not go away, as Beloit would use that power once more, this time being the clincher.

With Joseph Pena on third, Nick Osborne would hit a rocket out of the park plating two runs and giving the Snappers the 4-3 victory and sweep of the doubleheader.

Beloit will be back in action tomorrow when they take on the Quad Cities River Bandits in the final game of this four-game series. First pitch tomorrow is scheduled for 6:30 P.M.
