Lansing, MI; After dropping the series finale against the Lake County Captains last night, the South Bend Cubs faced a deficit of one game behind the Lansing Lugnuts for the Eastern Division wild card spot. With a key three-game series beginning tonight, the Cubs pulled off one of their biggest wins of the year by a final of 6-0 to beat Lansing.

The shutout performance was a complete team effort for South Bend. Starting with the pitching, Brendon Little did not miss a beat despite being moved up in the rotation to start game one. The 2017 1st round pick of the Cubs finished with 89 pitches and 4.2 innings completed. The southpaw struck out five batters with just three hits allowed.

Despite his dominant performance, Little had to take a no-decision. Casey Ryan, the first man out of the bullpen, continued his solid run out of the bullpen with 2.1 scoreless frames and one strikeout. Sean Barry finished the game with two shutout innings and three strikeouts.

Offensively, the Cubs plated their first three runs after just three innings of play. The eventual game winning run was scored in the top of the 1st when Andy Weber hustled home on a wild pitch thrown by Troy Miller.

Weber finished the night 2/3 with a pair of RBI, two walks, and two runs scored. In total, the Cubs walked 10 times in the game.

With the win, the Cubs are now tied with the Lugnuts for the wild card spot in the East. They will have the chance tomorrow afternoon to both win the series and grab sole possession of the wild card. First pitch from Cooley Law School Stadium is set for 1:05 PM. Cam Sanders is the expected starter for South Bend.
