CANTILLO REPEATS AS POTW: For the 2nd week in a row, lefty Joey Cantillo has won the Midwest League's Pitcher of the Week Award. He tossed a career-long 8 scoreless innings with 9 strikeouts against South Bend on Wednesday. Cantillo carried a no-hitter through 6.1 innings before he eventually conceded 2 singles. (He also hit 2 batters.) The 19-year-old became the first TinCaps pitcher to go 8 scoreless since Mark Hardy on Sept. 9, 2011 in a playoff game. The last Fort Wayne pitcher to go 8 scoreless in the regular season was Cory Kluber on Aug. 19, 2008 versus Lansing. Cantillo has thrown 22.2 consecutive scoreless frames, including 6 scoreless with a career-best 10 Ks at Great Lakes on June 20... Cantillo's 1.71 ERA is the 3rd lowest in Minor League Baseball while his .152 average against is the lowest in MiLB.

EYES ON MOSSER: Gabe Mosser is wearing eye glasses tonight on the mound for the first time in his career. The list of big-league pitchers who wear glasses includes Joe Kelly of the Dodgers and Nats closer Sean Doolittle. Meanwhile, among qualifying Midwest League pitchers, here's how Mosser ranks - 1st in K/BB (6.73)... 2nd in K-BB% (21%)... 2nd in BB/9 (1.43)... 2nd in BB% (3%)... 4th in K/9 (9.65)... 5th in K% (25%)... 6th in HR/9 (0.39, or 3 in 69 IP)... 9th in WHIP (1.17)... 2nd in FIP (2.52)... 2nd in xFIP (2.84)

WEEKDAY WONDERS: For what it's worth... the TinCaps are 28-14 in games played Monday-Thursday, but 8-28 in games on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

X IS A FACTOR: Infielder Xavier Edwards was the MWL Eastern Division's leadoff batter and starting second baseman in the All-Star Game and this explains why... He leads the league in batting average (.337) and OBP (.392) and is 4th in stolen bases (19). Edwards also has the 3rd lowest swinging strike % (4%), the 5th lowest K% (10%), and the 9th best BB/K (0.79)... 47% of the balls he's put into play have been hit the opposite way, the highest rate in the league... 29 of his league-high 95 hits have come on the first pitch of an AB as he's hit .483 in 0-0 counts... Saturday marked his second 4-hit game of the season. He also has a 5-hit game.

MAKING HIS MARK: Infielder Tucupita Marcano has the 3rd lowest K% in the MWL (10%) and the 4th lowest swinging strike % (4%).

J-LO HITS: Infielder Justin Lopez matched his TinCaps career-high with 3 hits on Sunday. Over the last 2 games, the 19-year-old is 5-for-8 with a triple, a walk, and no strikeouts. This comes after a stretch of 7 consecutive games without a hit (0-for-26 with 1 walk and 8 strikeouts).

HUNTING HITS: In 24 games since May 26, catcher Blake Hunt has slashed .330/.365/.477 (.842 OPS) with 11 doubles, 1 triple, and 14 RBIs. He leads the MWL in doubles during this time. Hunt is on a season-best 8-game hitting streak.
