LAST NIGHT: The TinCaps scored 6 runs in the first en route to a 7-5 victory over the Loons.

marKed improvement: Nick Margevicius (9 Ks in 5.1 IP) and Travis Radke (7 Ks in 2.2 IP) combined for a season-high 16 strikeouts. Along with Adrian Martinez, who worked the ninth, Fort Wayne pitchers walked just 1 batter.

HOMECOMING: Great Lakes infielder Zach McKinstry is from Fort Wayne and graduated from nearby North Side High School in 2014. McKinstry hit a 3-run homer Monday night. After 2 years at Central Michigan, McKinstry was drafted by the Dodgers in the 33rd round in 2016. That summer he played for the Loons and was part of their Midwest League championship-winning team. In 2017, McKinstry's time was split across Great Lakes (17 games) as well as High-A Rancho Cucamonga (82 games), and Double-A Tulsa (15 games). McKinstry's father, Alex, has previously worked part-time at Parkview Field as an usher, including in 2016 when Zach played here.

PATIENT APPROACH: Jeisson Rosario has drawn 9 walks and been hit by a pitch over his last 16 plate appearances (4 games). Rosario's 11 walks on the season are tied for 3rd most in the MWL.

ON THIS DAY: In 1946, Jackie Robinson made his debut in the minors with the Montreal Royals (Triple-A) against the Jersey City Giants in Jersey City, NJ. Robinson went 4-for-5 with a home run and 2 stolen bases as he became the first black player to play in affiliated baseball in the 20th century.

ALMOST HAD 'EM: The TinCaps have led in 6 of their 9 losses. Fort Wayne coughed up a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the ninth on opening night at Lake County. In their second game of the season, the TinCaps led, 6-1, before eventually succumbing to the Captains, 10-8. Against Lansing, Fort Wayne witnessed a 1-0 edge last Monday, multiple 2-run leads last Tuesday, and a 3-0 advantage last Thursday all evaporate. Same for a 3-1 lead Sunday @ BG.

YOUNGEST TEAM IN MiLB: The TinCaps feature the 4 youngest players in the league: Justin Lopez (17), Tirso Ornelas (18), Gabriel Arias (18), and Jeisson Rosario. Fort Wayne presently has 10 teenagers on its roster. According to Baseball America, the average age for a TinCaps player to start the year was 20.6. (The average age in the Midwest League was 22 years old.) This theme continues up the ladder for the Padres, who also have the youngest team in the California League (High-A Lake Elsinore) and the Texas League (Double-A San Antonio).

WE'RE No. 1: According to MLB.com, the Padres have the No. 1 ranked farm system in baseball. The TinCaps boast 7 "Top 30" San Diego prospects (see list on right), including MacKenzie Gore (MLB.com's No. 1 LHP).

WHO'S BACK: The TinCaps currently have 11 players on their roster who've played in the Midwest League before (8 from last year's TinCaps team, Carlos Belen '16, Travis Radke '15, and Jared Carkuff, who was with Lansing last year). Fort Wayne manager Anthony Contreras is back for his third season with the club, while pitching coach Burt Hooton is in his sixth year (franchise record). Fielding coach Jhonny Carvajal is in his second year.

260 TO THE SHOW: 25 Fort Wayne alums have played in the bigs so far this season (159 have reached the majors in the franchise's history). In 2017, the total for the season was 44.
