April 18, 2018 - Midwest League (MWL1)
West Michigan Whitecaps News Release

COMSTOCK PARK, MI - The West Michigan Whitecaps used extra innings to rally back from a loss, as well as being no-hit as Joey Morgan's walk-off RBI-single helped defeat the Bowling Green Hot Rods 2-1 in eight innings in the first game of a doubleheader on Wednesday.

In Game 2, the Hot Rods roared back with a 6-2 victory to leave West Michigan with a split in Wednesday's doubleheader.

In Game 1, a pitcher's duel saw both starters toss seven scoreless innings. Bowling Green pitcher Resly Linares was sensational in no-hitting the Whitecaps while striking out seven batters. Whitecaps starter Garett King was nearly as masterful, allowing just three hits and a walk while striking out eight to tie his career-high. The game went to extra innings, and the Hot Rods struck first in the eighth on a fielder's choice to score Devin Davis, who was placed on second base as part of Minor League Baseball's new extra-innings rules to take a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the frame, Jordan Pearce promptly tied the game after a pair of unsuccessful bunt attempts with an RBI-single. The base hit broke up a Hot Rods no-hitter, and set the score even at one. Two batters later, Joey Morgan lined an 0-2 pitch over the head of left fielder Moises Perez for a game-winning run-scoring single to give the "Caps a 2-1 win.

In Game 2, Bowling Green struck for three first-inning runs against West Michigan starter Burris Warner to take a 3-0 lead. The Whitecaps plated a pair in the third to draw within a run at 3-2, but the Hot Rods scored a run in the fourth on an RBI-double by Taylor Walls. Zach Law launched a towering two-run home run down the left-field line in the seventh to conclude the scoring and give Bowling Green a 6-2 lead.

Clate Schmidt (3-0) earned his third win of the season by pitching the eighth inning of Game 1, while Warner (1-1) takes the loss for giving up three runs in three frames of the nightcap. Nick Padilla (1-2) gave up the two "Caps runs in the eighth to take his second loss, while Drew Strotman (1-0) earns the Game 2 victory with six innings of two-run baseball for the Hot Rods. The Whitecaps record moves to 7-3, while the Hot Rods move to 6-7 while snapping the "Caps six-game home winning streak with their win in Game 2.
