
Cougars Blow out Wisconsin

Peoria, Illinois - The Kane County Cougars earned their second straight win over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers with a 13-2 triumph on Wednesday afternoon at Dozer Park.
Wisconsin (3-9) scored first on an RBI ground out from Pat McInerney in the first inning. The Cougars (5-5) tied the score in the second inning on Renae Martinez's RBI double. With two outs and Martinez at second, three straight Cougars walked, including Yoel Yanqui's RBI free pass to give the Cougars a 2-1 lead. Luis Silverio followed with two RBI on a double to make it 4-1 Cougars after two innings. The Cougars added two more runs in the third on an RBI triple by Luis Basabe. Basabe scored on the play due to an error by Wisconsin right fielder Demi Orimoloye, padding the Cougar lead to 6-1.
Wisconsin got a run back in the third on Joantgel Segovia's double to cut the Cougars lead to 6-2. In the top of the fourth the Cougars broke the game open with four runs. Luis Silverio singled in a run. Eudy Ramos drove in two with a single and the Cougars extended their lead to 10-2 on a wild pitch. Silverio collected an RBI triple in the fifth and scored on a wild pitch, making it 12-2 Cougars. Ramos' sacrifice fly in the ninth provided the final Cougars run.
Cole Stapler (1-1) earned the win for the Cougars. Stapler allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits over five innings of work, striking out six and walking none. Jayson McKinley walked the first batter he faced then bounced back to retire the next eight batters in three shutout innings. Carlos Bustamante pitched a perfect ninth in his 2018 Cougars debut.
Wisconsin starter Nelson Hernandez took the loss. Hernandez (1-2) allowed four runs in 1.2 innings on four hits and four walks. Matthew Hardy allowed two unearned runs in 1.1 innings. Jenri Montas lasted just 0.2 innings, surrendering four runs. Rodrigo Benoit yielded two runs in 2.1 innings out of the Timber Rattlers pen. Robbie Hitt and Gabe Friese worked scoreless frames. Rattlers' shortstop Nick Roscetti allowed one run on the mound in the ninth.
The Cougars finish up the three-game series with Wisconsin on Thursday at Dozer Park. The Cougars will send right-hander Jeff Bain (0-0, 0.00) to the mound. First pitch is scheduled for noon. Follow the action live with Joe Brand on AM 1280 or on kccougars.com.
