Dayton, Ohio - John Sansone hit a two-run home run and four Dayton pitchers combined to allow just five hits as the Dragons defeated the South Bend Cubs 4-1 on Wednesday night. The win was the Dragons seventh straight, matching their longest winning streak since 2011. The victory also moved the Dragons into a tie for first place in the East Division of the Midwest League as they improved their record to 7-3.

The game featured the second start with the Dragons for Reds 2017 first round draft pick Hunter Greene. Greene went two and one-third innings before coming out of the game after a long rain delay. He allowed three hits and one walk but did not surrender a run while striking out three. Greene's fastball reached 101 mph in the game, matching the unofficial Fifth Third Field record set by Aroldis Chapman in 2014.

The Dragons took a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Miles Gordon singled to right field with one out, went to second on an error, and scored on Stuart Fairchild's two-out single. Sansone followed with a two-run home run to left field, his first of the year.

In the top of the third inning, South Bend put runners at second and third with one out when rain forced the game to be delayed by one hour, 33 minutes. Austin Orewiler replaced Hunter Greene on the mound and got a strikeout and fly out to end the threat, stranding both runners in scoring position.

The Dragons added a run in the bottom of the third when Montrell Marshall started the inning with a walk, went from first to third on a wild pitch, and scored on Michael Beltre's ground out to make it 4-0.

South Bend's Chris Singleton belted a home run to lead off the seventh inning to make it 4-1. It was Singleton's first homer of the year. But Dragons pitchers shutout the Cubs the rest of the night on only one hit.

Orewiler (2-1) was brilliant as he earned the win. He struck out eight without giving up a walk in four and two-thirds innings, allowing just two hits and one run. Ryan Nutof tossed a perfect eighth inning and Sarkis Ohanian retired the side in order in the ninth for his second save.

Notes: Dragons relievers have allowed just two earned runs over the seven-game winning streak, totaling 31.2 innings...Fairchild extended his hitting streak to five straight games.

Up Next: The Dragons (7-3) and Cubs (6-4) will close out the three-game series on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. Packy Naughton (0-0, 2.38) will make his third start of the year for the Dragons. South Bend's starter will be Erich Uelmen (0-1, 23.14).

All Dragons games are broadcast on radio on Fox Sports 980 WONE and on the internet at wone.com. Games are also available on the Dayton Dragons mobile app.
