Timely Offense Secures Third Straight Win

Modesto, CA. - After coughing up an early lead, the Modesto Nuts came from behind to defeat the Stockton Ports 4-3 on Wednesday night at John Thurman Field setting up a chance for a sweep in the three-game series finale on Thursday.

Wes Rogers tied the game in the seventh on a two-out RBI single. In the eighth, Josh Fuentes reached on an error to start the inning. He was sacrificed to second and moved to third on Ryan Stephens infield single. Dom Nunez delivered the win with a sac fly to center. It was his second RBI and his second sac fly of the game.

The two late runs for the Nuts (20-26; 46-70) came against Ports (20-25; 47-69) reliever Evan Manarino (L, 0-1) who allowed just two unearned runs over three innings on three hits with one strikeout and no walks.

Logan Cozart (W, 1-4) worked a perfect eighth in front of Luis Niebla (S, 10/10) who tossed a 1-2-3 ninth.

Ryan Castellani threw seven innings for the Nuts allowing just one earned run. Overall he surrendered three runs, all in the fifth. Seth Brown smacked a RBI single. A two-out error by Josh Fuentes at third allowed the second run to score in front of James Harris' RBI single. Castellani surrendered six hits, walked one and struck out three.

The Nuts had jumped out to an early lead in the second on Nunez's first sac fly and Drew Weeks' RBI triple. Weekes finished 2-for-3 with a run scored as well.
