Bakersfield Arms Turn Visalia Bats Raw

August 11, 2016 - California League (CalL1)
Bakersfield Blaze News Release

In one of the most impressive pitching performances all season, the Bakersfield Blaze used five pitchers to shutout the Visalia Rawhide, 1-0.

Tyler Pike started the windmill session off by throwing two innings and striking out two before the bullpen came in to dominate the Rawhide.

Visalia as a team struck out 18 times, that is the most since April 15th when they fanned 15 times against the Blaze.

Making his Blaze debut, Joe Pistorese (W, 1-0) was dominant in the two innings he pitched for Bako. The left-hander gave up the only hit of the game, but punched out six of the seven batters he faced.

Bakersfield won for the first time this season when scoring one run (1-8) as Justin Seager scored on a throwing error by Joe Munoz at third base after Gianfranco Wawoe laid down a sacrifice bunt.

With a 1-0 lead in the third inning, Bakersfield pitching continued to keep their collective foot on the gas against Visalia.

Art Warren struck out four batters in two innings, Darin Gillies followed Pistorese and struck out four, and then Thyago Vieira struck out two more batters to put the cherry on top.

The 18 strike outs for the Blaze matches their season-high from April 30th when they beat the Inland Empire 66ers, 4-3 in 14 frames.

The Blaze and Rawhide end their regular season matchup on Thursday night. First pitch is scheduled at 7:00pm with David Gascon on the call courtesy of TuneIn Radio and BakersfieldBlaze.com.
