Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Rancho Cucamonga, CA-- The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes bounced back after a disappointing game on Tuesday, to beat the Lake Elsinore Storm, 10-5, on Wednesday at LoanMart Field.
The Quakes offense exploded for ten runs on 13 hits in the game two victory. It was just Rancho's fourth win in their last 13 games.
After falling behind 1-0, Rancho Cucamonga scored three runs in the second inning and never looked back. An RBI double by Noah Perio started the scoring for the Quakes and a two-run home run by Johan Mieses, his team-leading 23rd of the season, capped off the three-run second.
Rancho added two more in the fifth to go ahead 5-1 thanks to an RBI single from Perio and an RBI double by Mieses.
In the seventh inning, the Quakes put the game away with a four-run frame. After two walks and a single loaded the bases, Mike Ahmed hit a sacrifice fly for Rancho's sixth run of the game. The next hitter, Yusniel Diaz, blooped a broken bat single to center field, plating another run. Perio added the exclamation point with a two-out, two-run triple, giving him four RBIs on the night and the Quakes a 9-2 lead.
After Lake Elsinore scored three runs in the top of the eighth, Rancho scored their final run of the game in the bottom of the inning. Ahmed tallied his second RBI of the night by singling home Devan Ahart to make it 10-5 Quakes to round out the scoring.
Rancho had five players with multi-hit games, as Erick Mejia, Diaz, Ariel Sandoval and Mieses each had two-hit games, and Perio had a three-hit contest. Perio and Mieses combined for seven RBIs in the win.
Wes Helsabeck (2-2) bounced back from a rough first start in High Desert and picked up the win for Rancho after allowing just one earned run on three hits, striking out eight. It was his second Cal League start and his first at LoanMart field, after appearing in four games in relief earlier this season.
Chris Huffman (9-5) was roughed up for the loss, allowing five earned runs on six hits in just 4.1 innings. It was the first time Rancho was able to beat Huffman this season in five starts, after he allowed just one earned run in 21 innings pitched as a starter coming into the game on Wednesday. Rancho tagged Trevor Seidenberger for three earned runs in one-third of an inning, while Geraldo Reyes gave up two earned runs in two-thirds of an inning.
The Quakes (23-23, 65-50) continue their series against Lake Elsinore on Thursday. Rancho's starting pitcher for the game three matchup is RHP Tommy Bergjans (2-12, 5.34 ERA). The Storm will send RHP Enyel De Los Santos (3-3, 4.95 ERA) to the mound. First pitch from game three at LoanMart Field is at 7:05 p.m.
