Inland Empire 66ers News Release

San Bernardino, CA- Zach Houchins two run home run and starting pitcher Garrett Nuss' (2-2, 4.91 ERA) six innings of two-run ball paced the Inland Empire 66ers (40-76) to a 4-2 victory over the Lancaster JetHawks (64-51) Wednesday night.

The JetHawks got on the board first when Drew Ferguson drove in Bobby Boyd on a swinging bunt off of Nuss. It was Nuss' first appearance in a Sixers uniform since June 25th when he threw six innings of one run ball against the Visalia Rawhide. Nuss would go on to throw four scoreless innings following the first and now has a 2.25 ERA over his last three appearances.

The 66ers took the lead in the bottom of the first. Michael Hermosillo lead off the frame with a single extending his hit streak to ten games. Following a David Fletcher pop out, Hutton Moyer doubled off the base of the left field wall to drive home Hermosillo. Jared Foster hit into a fielder choice that would erase Moyer off the base paths, which lead to the hit of the night. Houchins drove a 2-0 fastball from JetHawks starting pitcher Rogelio Armenteros (6-4, 3.65 ERA) over wall in left center field to give the 66ers a 3-1 lead, a lead Inland Empire would not relinquish. The home run was Houchins' team leading 14th of the season.

The Sixers bullpen trio of Jason Hoppe, Adam Hofackett and Winston Lavendier allowed just one run over the final four innings giving up just two hits and one walk. Lavendier picked up his second save of the season for his ninth inning efforts.

The series ends Thursday at 7:05 pm. The contest can be heard live at 66ers.com and 1570 AM KPRO. .
