Sioux Falls Canaries News Release
The Sioux Falls Canaries were dynamite with two outs on Tuesday, scoring seven two-out runs on six separate hits to beat the visiting St. Paul Saints 7-5.
Mitch Glasser drove in three runs in the contest, which leveled the teams' series at a game apiece.
Sioux Falls started early, knocking three two-out RBI singles in the bottom of the first. Jabari Henry, Mike Hart and Glasser all knocked in runs in the inning to give the Birds a 3-0 lead.
The Saints quickly tied the score in the top of the second on a three-run home run from Nathaniel Maggio, his third of the year.
The Birds responded in the bottom of the second, again behind timely singles. Chris Grayson and Henry knocked in runs in back-to-back at-bats to give the Canaries a 5-3 advantage.
Birds manager Mike Meyer pulled starter Chad Martin, making his first start since 2016, after two innings of work. He allowed three runs on one hit while walking three and striking out one.
John Straka picked up the slack for Sioux Falls out of the bullpen. The right-hander tossed four innings of one-run ball to earn the win.
Straka's only run allowed came in the third when Brady Shoemaker scored on a Straka wild pitch, making it 5-4 Canaries.
The Birds added two more in the fourth on a two-out, two-run single from Glasser, bringing his season RBI total to 22.
Kyle Schepel pitched the last two innings for Sioux Falls, allowing one run on a ninth-inning sacrifice fly. Grayson made a leaping catch at the right-field wall for the final out of the game.
