August 8, 2018 - American Association (AA)
Sioux Falls Canaries News Release
The Sioux Falls Canaries got one of their biggest series wins of the year on Wednesday, knocking off the St. Paul Saints 10-7 at the Birdcage to win their three-game set 2-1.
Jabari Henry drove in three runs for the Canaries, putting his total at six for the series.
St. Paul scored two early runs in the first off of Birds starter Jake Esch, but Henry responded in the bottom of the inning with an RBI single to make it 2-1.
Both starters settled in from there. Esch finished with two runs allowed in his six innings of work. He allowed five hits, walking two and striking out five.
The Birds scored five in the seventh to take the lead. Jeff Malm had a two-run single to open the scoring, and an RBI single by Chris Grayson made it 4-2 Birds.
After Saints manager George Tsamis pulled starter Matt Solter from the game, Jabari Henry knocked a two-run double to give the Birds a four-run advanage.
Mike Hart made it 7-2 Birds with an RBI single in the seventh.
St. Paul tied the game in the eighth with a pair of home runs. Brady Shoemaker hit a three run shot, his seventh of the year, to make it 7-5. Three batters later, Nathaniel Maggio hit a two-run shot off the left-field foul pole. His fifth of the season tied the game at 7.
The Canaries wasted no time in reclaiming the lead. Maxx Garrett scored on a Ken Frosch wild pitch to make it 8-7 Birds, and a sacrifice fly from Jordan Smith doubled the Canaries' lead.
Jordan Dean capped off the inning with a solo home run, his fourth of the year. The Canaries led 10-7 in the ninth.
Kyle Schepel pitched a perfect ninth inning for the Canaries, locking up his ninth save and the Canaries' win.
