Timbers Sign Goalkeeper Maxime CrÉpeau

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Timbers have signed free agent goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau, the club announced today. Crépeau is set to join the Timbers through the 2025 season with a club option for 2026.

"We are delighted with the acquisition of Max Crépeau and welcome his family to Portland. His ability and character are standout qualities that will strengthen our group," said Timbers General Manager Ned Grabavoy. "Max possesses leadership and experience that was a necessity for us in this position and couldn't be more thrilled by his addition."

Crépeau, 29, joins Portland for his 12th MLS season. In that time, he has logged 100 regular season appearances (all starts), recording 23 clean sheets and a winning mark of 42-35-23 across competitions with LAFC (2022-2023), Vancouver Whitecaps FC (2019-2021) and the Montreal Impact (2013-2017). In the last two seasons for LAFC, Crépeau made back-to-back MLS Cup appearances and claimed the 2022 title. The goalkeeper made 36 appearances in LAFC's 2022 MLS Cup Championship run, registering 10 shutouts and 79 saves to help LAFC earn the 2022 Supporters' Shield.

In 2023, Crépeau appeared in 12 consecutive MLS matches for LAFC after returning from injury in July. From his first 2023 MLS appearance on Sept. 16 to LAFC's 2023 MLS Cup Final match on Dec 9, Crépeau helped LAFC register a 7-3-2 record, logging five clean sheets. During that period, Crépeau held opponents scoreless for 283 minutes in his first four appearances back, marking the third-longest shutout streak in club history. He also started in LAFC's 2023 Campeones Cup Final against Mexican side Tigres UANL on Sept. 27.

Internationally, Crépeau has made 15 appearances (14 starts) for the Canadian Men's National Team. A regular call-up in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, Crépeau logged four appearances (four starts) with the last one being on March 31, 2022, against Panama. Crépeau helped Canada qualify for the team's second all-time World Cup appearance in 2022 before missing the World Cup due to an injury on Nov. 11, 2022. The Quebec native last joined Canada in the Concacaf Nations League Finals against Jamaica during the November FIFA window in 2023. Crépeau has been a part of Canada's U-17, U-20 and U-23 teams before making his senior debut in 2016.

In three seasons (2019-2021) with the Whitecaps, Crépeau made 57 appearances, tallying 12 shutouts. From 2013 to 2018, Crépeau logged 65 USL appearances while on loan with FC Montreal and Ottawa Fury FC. Notably, he was named the 2018 USL Goalkeeper of the Year after recording a USL record 15 clean sheets in the campaign. The goalkeeper began his professional career in 2013, signing his first MLS contract with the Montreal Impact to become the club's fourth Homegrown Player. Crépeau was part of Montreal's 2013 and 2014 Canadian Cup winning teams.
