Scoring for a fifth straight league game, Fernandez established the MLS record for most consecutive league matches with a goal to start an MLS career. Fernandez has scored nine goals in seven appearances across all competitions for Portland. He has scored six goals in five appearances in MLS play. Fernandez is the third player in MLS this season to score goals in five consecutive matches, joining Carlos Vela and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Key plays

On the counter-attack, Diego Valeri played the ball out wide on the right side to Jorge Moreira, who delivered a cross into the center of the box. Fernandez laid the ball off for Valeri, who fired a shot toward the bottom left corner of the goal that was blocked out for a corner kick in the 29th minute.

In the 37th minute, Portland continued to keep the pressure on FC Dallas near the edge of their box. Cristhian Paredes pounced on the ball as it got away from Paxton Pomykal, running into the box and sending a shot just wide of the left post.

The Timbers took the lead in the 42nd minute as Fernandez scored his ninth goal in all competitions. On the break, Blanco dribbled down the right side of the field and played a diagonal ball to Fernandez running to the edge of the box and he unleashed a side-footed strike into the top, right corner of the goal.

Valeri nearly doubled the Timbers lead in the 51st minute on a free kick. Lining up the attempt from just outside the top of the box, Valeri sent a curling shot inside the left post, but FC Dallas goalkeeper Jesse González dove to his right at full stretch to push the ball wide of the post.

Just one minute later, Jeremy Ebobisse made a late run into the box to get on the end of a diagonal ball played to the right post from the left wing by Blanco, but Ebobisse's one-touch shot went just wide of target.

Combining down the left side of the field in the 88th minute, Blanco played the ball to Valeri inside the box on the left wing. Valeri received the ball and cut back to the middle, attempting to place his shot into the right bottom corner of the goal, but FC Dallas' Matt Hedges made a diving play to block the shot.
