July 1, 2019 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Club de Foot Montreal News Release
MONTREAL - For the second time in four years and in collaboration with Relevent Sports Group which owns and operates the International Champions Cup, the Montreal Impact will welcome Real Madrid C.F. to its training centre, Centre Nutrilait, from July 9 to 19.
"We are very proud to have Real Madrid choose our facilities and decide to come back to Montreal," said the president and CEO of the Montreal Impact, Kevin Gilmore. "The Impact will once again host the Spanish giants in Montreal, a testament to our world-class training facilities and the status of Montreal as an international city of choice, and a global nod to a city becoming more and more entranced with soccer."
Other large European clubs, like Chelsea FC in July 2015 and AS Roma in August 2016, also made the Impact's facilities their headquarters for their training camp.
After training in Montreal during July 2016, Real Madrid won the UEFA Champions League at the end of the 2016-17 season. Head coach Zinedine Zidane, at the helm of the team at the time and winner of three consecutive European Cups, is back in this position since March 11, nine months after stepping down.
Real Madrid will train in Montreal in preparation for the International Champions Cup in the United States. The club will play its first game on July 20 against Bayern Munich in Houston, Texas. They will then take on Arsenal in Washington, D.C., on July 23, followed by Atlético Madrid in New Jersey on July 26.
