PORTLAND, Ore. - In conjunction with Blue Carrot Games, the Portland Timbers today launched a free mobile game for iPhone, called "Timbers Axe," which is now available for download in the Apple App Store.

The cartoon game features club mascot Timber Joey, who must protect his rose garden from intruders with his axe. "Timbers Axe" has seven increasingly difficult levels and is integrated with the Apple Game Center, allowing friends to compare high scores. Click here to download the game.

"Timbers Axe" was inspired by a similar mobile game and conceptualized by Ronan McCann, a Timbers season ticket holder and father of one of the club's "We Are Timbers" billboard campaign participants. The game is exclusively available on the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.

In the game, some intruders leave behind soccer balls, and when collected, help Timber Joey earn a superpower. Players can earn trophies through various accomplishments, including "Pure Sunshine," which goes to those who earn all gold medals.

"Timbers Axe" is not recommended for children under 13 years old due to the game's cartoon violence.

"Timbers Axe" is based on Blue Carrot Games' "Axe in Face," which includes 32 levels of enemies, superpowers and trophies. Nominated for Game of the Year in the 2011 Danish Game Awards, "Axe in Face" is also available in the Apple App Store and features an intense survival mode.
