Timbers Drop 1-0 Result to San Jose Earthquakes in 2024 Coachella Valley Invitational

INDIO, Calif. - The Portland Timbers dropped a 1-0 result to the San Jose Earthquakes in their second match of the 2024 Coachella Valley Invitational at the Empire Polo Club fields in Indio, California on Wednesday afternoon. The team will close out the tournament against the Chicago Fire on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 12 p.m. (Pacific) before returning to Portland to host its regular season opener against the Colorado Rapids on February 24 at Providence Park; kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. (Pacific) on MLS Season Pass the Apple TV app.
Match Notes
Twenty-two players took the field for Portland today, including 14 returners, three new signings, three T2 players and two trialists. Goalkeeper Max Crépeau is the only Portland player to have started both matches in the preseason tournament, while 20 different field players have earned a start either today or in the match against NYCFC on Feb. 10. Despite conceding two penalty kicks, the Timbers have not allowed a goal in the run of play through their first two matches.
