Portland Timbers News Release
PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Timbers have acquired Jamaican forward Michael Seaton from D.C. United in exchange for targeted allocation money and an international roster slot through Dec. 31, 2015, it was announced today. Per league and club policy, terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Seaton, 19, has made five MLS regular-season appearances with D.C. United after signing with the club on Jan. 14, 2013, as a Homegrown player. A native of Spanish Town, Jamaica, the 6-foot forward spent the majority of his D.C. United career on loan with USL side Richmond Kickers, registering seven goals and one assist in 22 games during portions of the 2013 and 2014 seasons. On loan with Swedish Allsvenskan side Ãrebro SK, Seaton made four league appearances (2 starts), while also earning time with the team's Under-21 side.
"Michael is a talented young player that we believe in time, with our club resources and infrastructure, will continue to develop and be positioned to realize his full potential," said Gavin Wilkinson, general manager of the Timbers.
Making his senior international debut for the Jamaica National Team on Nov. 15, 2013, Seaton has logged 13 caps for the Reggae Boyz and was part of the team's roster during its run to the championship match of the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup. Seaton, who also spent time with Jamaica youth national teams, tallied his first international goal on March 5, 2014, in a 5-0 win against Saint Lucia. During the CONCACAF Gold Cup, Seaton was a late-game substitute in a 3-1 loss against Mexico in the championship match on July 26.
Seaton holds U.S. citizenship and will not occupy an international slot on the Timbers' roster.
