Sounders FC Secures 1-1 Draw in Vancouver to Open Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League Play

VANCOUVER, B.C. - A second-half goal from forward Lamar Neagle helped Seattle Sounders FC secure a 1-1 draw with Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Wednesday evening at BC Place. Andy Rose registered the assist as the Rave Green opened their account in the 2015-2016 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League Group Stage.

After a scoreless first half, Vancouver took the lead in the 61st minute of play via a Pedro Morales corner-kick. The Chilean provided service for defender Tim Parker, who redirected the ball with a back-heel flick past Seattle goalkeeper Troy Perkins.

Sounders FC drew level through Lamar Neagle in the 71st minute, after the Seattle forward received a cross from the right flank courtesy of midfielder Andy Rose, beating Vancouver netminder Paolo Tornaghi at his near post. The strike is Neagle's fifth tally of 2015 across all competitions.

Seattle and Vancouver are now tied atop Group F with one point apiece. The Rave Green continue SCCL play on Wednesday, August 16 with a home fixture against Honduran side CD Olimpia.

Following tonight's contest, Sounders FC returns to the Emerald City for two days before heading to Southern California for a nationally televised MLS clash with the LA Galaxy on Sunday, August 9 (1:00 p.m. PT / ESPN, KIRO Radio 97.3 FM, El Rey 1360 AM).

MATCH NOTES

After the result, Seattle and Vancouver are now tied atop SCCL Group F with one point apiece. Group Stage play continues for Sounders FC on Wednesday, August 16 with a home matchup with Honduran side CD Olimpia.

Neagle's second-half equalizer marks his second career goal in SCCL play. He previously scored in the Second Leg of the 2012-2013 Semifinal against Santos Laguna. The Federal Way-native's five goals across all competitions for Seattle rank third on the team.

Wednesday night's match marked the third meeting across all competitions between Seattle and Vancouver of the 2015 campaign, with the two teams even at 1-1-1. Sounders FC took a 2-0 result at BC Place on May 26, while Whitecaps FC won 3-0 on Saturday at CenturyLink Field, both in MLS action. The Cascadia rivals will meet twice more this season, starting with the third and final league meeting in Vancouver on September 19 before wrapping up SCCL Group F action on September 23 in Seattle.

Andy Rose now has four assists across all competitions this season, tied for third on the team. His four career assists in SCCL play rank third in franchise history.

Goalkeeper Troy Perkins made his fifth appearance and fourth start of the season across all competitions. Perkins has allowed just four goals for a 0.89 goals against average, and has yet to allow multiple scores in a single match.
