
Toronto FC Forward Sebastian Giovinco Voted Etihad Airways MLS Player of the Month

NEW YORK (Thursday, August 6, 2015) - Toronto FC forward Sebastian Giovinco was voted Etihad Airways MLS Player of the Month by fans on MLSsoccer.com for the month of July for the 2015 MLS season.
In four games in the month of July, the Atomic Ant racked up five goals and three assists to help Toronto to a 1-1-2 record in that span. Toronto now sits in third place in a tight Eastern Conference playoff race with a total of 31 points. Giovinco currently leads MLS with 16 goals, overtaking Dwayne De Rosario's club record for goals in a season, and now claims 10 assists.
The Italian international recorded the first hat-trick in Toronto FC regular season history in the club's 4-4 draw with New York City FC on July 12. Recorded in a nine-minute span, the hat-trick was the third fastest in MLS history. With Toronto down 2-0, Giovinco got his team back in the game in the 34th minute when he buried his penalty kick past goalkeeper Josh Saunders (watch goal). Giovinco would bag his second tally in the 40th minute when he latched on to a back-heel pass from teammate Jackson and fought off defender Shay Facey to fire a right-footed shot to the far post. The MLS newcomer would complete his hat-trick in the in the 43rd minute when he slipped in behind the NYCFC defense and beat Saunders with a wonderful one-touch chipped finish.
Giovinco went on to record a goal and an assist in Toronto's 2-1 win over the Philadelphia Union on July 18 (watch goal). A week later in Toronto's 3-3 draw with Columbus Crew SC on July 25, Giovinco added another goal and an assist to round out his spectacular month (watch goal).
Toronto FC returns to MLS action this Saturday, when they host Sporting Kansas City at 4:00 p.m. ET at BMO Field (TSN).
