Columbus Crew SC News Release
COLUMBUS - Columbus Crew SC today announced that it has acquired Orlando City SC's highest Second Round selection in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft in exchange for forward Adam Bedell. Per club and MLS policy, additional terms of the deal were not disclosed.
"Parting ways with a player is always difficult, but we feel this decision is best for Adam in his MLS development," said Sporting Director and Head Coach Gregg Berhalter. "We were pleased with Adam's progression over the last year and a half and are excited to see him take the next step in his career. We enjoyed working with him and wish him well in Orlando."
Bedell was originally drafted in the Third Round (45th overall) by Columbus in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft. He scored two goals in his rookie campaign for the Black & Gold last season. This year, the former University of Detroit Mercy forward has made two competitive starts for Crew SC, both in the 2015 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. In the Fourth Round, on June 17 at Richmond, he notched his first professional brace in a 3-1 win.
With the transaction, the club now holds three picks in the Second Round of the 2016 MLS SuperDraft, including a pair of selections acquired via transactions in 2013 and 2014. An updated list of club transactions can be found at http://bit.ly/CrewSCTransactionTracker.
Crew SC next plays on Saturday, August 8 when it visits the Colorado Rapids at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colorado (9:00 p.m. ET / Time Warner Cable SportsChannel, CD102.5 FM, 103.1 FM La Mega).
