Tigers Topple 'Cats 10-2

NORWICH, CT- The Tri-City ValleyCats fell to the Connecticut Tigers 10-2 on Saturday night, as the 'Cats could not overcome the resounding offensive output of Tigers outfielder Michael Gerber.

Gerber, who signed with the Detroit Tigers two days after Connecticut and Tri-City concluded their season-opening series June 13-15, went 4-5 with two home runs, a double, a triple and eight runs batted in. That RBI total was the most in a single game by a New York-Penn League player this season, and more than all but nine players in the league had totaled all year.

The ValleyCats did push two runs across in the second inning when Terrell Joyce led of the frame with a double, Ariel Ovando and Ravel Santana singled, and Alfredo Gonzalez drove a run in on a groundout.

Tri-City third baseman J.D. Davis also added an offensive highlight when he singled to left field in the fifth inning. That base hit extended the Cal State Fullerton product's hit streak to 14 games. That gives him the longest streak in the New York Penn-League this season, and the longest by a ValleyCat hitter since Preston Tucker and M.P. Okinos each posted streaks of 15 games in 2012.

Despite falling to 9-7, the ValleyCats remain in first place in the Stedler Division, one game ahead of the 8-8 Tigers and 8-8 Lowell Spinners.

Defending Tri-City's spot atop the standings tomorrow in the final game of this three game series will be RHP Joe Musgrove (1-1, 3.95). He will face Connecticut Tigers RHP Spencer Turnbull (0-0, 0.00).
