Lowell holds Vermont off board until ninth for win, 4-1

LOWELL, MASS. - Sam Travis delivered a two-run single to give the Spinners an early lead that would be all that Jason Garcia needed as the Lowell Spinners jumped out to an early lead that would hold for a 4-1 victory Saturday night at Centennial Field.
Action started in the third when Alixon Suarez reached first base to lead off the inning. Bryan Hudson followed that up with an infield single, and advance Suarez. Small-ball hitting was the name-of-the-game as Danny Mars sent Suarez and Hudson into scoring position after his sacrifice bunt in front of homeplate. With runners on second and third Sam Travis delivered a two-run single to center plating both runners. A pair of singles by Nick Longhi and Cole Strugeon followed, scoring Travis to make it 3-0.
Lowell's offense continued into the fourth when a Suarez's sacrifice bunt and a Hudson's RBI single advanced and scored Flores, who earlier reached on a wild-pitch strikeout by Joseph Michaud (1-2, 3.38 ERA), and secured the insurance run.
After the fourth inning, the Lake Monsters (7-9) could not touch the Spinners' bullpen, as German Taveras followed with two scoreless innings before the Lake Monsters put the first two batters of the ninth inning on. Although the Lake Monsters would plate a run, Carlos Pinales came on to close out the win and record his fifth save of the season.
Garcia (1-1, 2.00) was the winner with six standout innings, allowing just two hits while striking out two.
Offensively, four Spinners had two-hit games, led by leadoff man, Hudson. Joining the multi-hit parade were Longhi, Sturgeon and Jordan Betts.
The three-game set wraps up Sunday at Centennial Field, with first-pitch scheduled for 5:05 p.m. Heri Quevedo (0-2, 9.75 ERA) will take the mound for the Spinners, marking his fourth start of the season. Lowell will be off Monday and return to LeLacheur Park Tuesday, July 1 for a matchup against the Connecticut Tigers.
