Hudson Valley Renegades News Release

The Connecticut Tigers stuck for five eighth-inning runs, snapping a three-all tie and defeating the Hudson Valley Renegades, 8-3, in front of 5,388 fans at Dutchess Stadium. The Tigers take the series, two games to one.

Renegades starter Andrew Bellatti (5.2 IP, 6H, 2R/2ER, 1BB, 4SO) did not factor into the decision, despite allowing just two runs (both earned) in 5.2 solid innings. The right-hander now has a 1.35 ERA over his last five starts, covering 26.2 innings.

Connecticut opened the scoring in the top of the second inning, pushing across a pair of runs for a 2-0 lead. The score remained 2-0 until Hudson Valley catcher Matt Rice (2-for-3, HR, 2RBI, SAC FLY) led off the sixth inning with a solo home run, his third of the year, cutting the margin to 2-1.

The Renegades clawed back with a pair of runs in the seventh inning. Hudson Valley second baseman Raymond Church crossed the plate after Tigers' first baseman misplayed Juniel Querecuto's hard groundball to first, slicing the lead to one. One batter later, Hudson Valley leadoff hitter Chris Winder (2-for-3, R, 2BB) scored on a sacrifice fly by Rice, tying the game at 3-3.

In the top of the eighth inning, Connecticut built an 8-3 lead, putting the game out of reach with five runs on two hits and four walks.

Hudson Valley infielder Dio Luis pitched a scoreless ninth inning for the Renegades, allowing just one hit in his second career pitching appearance. Previously, Luis hurled a scoreless inning for the Bowling Green Hot Rods against the Beloit Snappers in a Low-A Midwest League game on June 12, 2010.

The Hudson Valley Renegades host the Staten Island Yankees tomorrow night, July 18th. The first pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
