Jamestown Jammers News Release

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. - The Jamestown Jammers (18-13) rallied in the bottom of the seventh to slip past the Mahoning Valley Scrappers, 6-5, and stay in first place in the Pinckney Division Monday night at Diethrick Park.

Terrence Dayleg led the offense with three hits including a game-tying single in the seventh inning. Rand Smith added two singles, and Rony Peralta chipped in two more to push the Jammers a game in front of both the Scappers and the Batavia Muckdogs in the standings.

Mahoning Valley struck first with two runs in the top of the second. John Barr delivered a sacrifice fly, and Alex Lavisky contributed a RBI double to get the Scrappers on the board.

Jordan Smith belted a solo homer to inch even further in front in the fourth inning.

However, the Jammers would respond with a pair of tallies in the bottom of the fourth.

Dayleg and Morales had back-to-back singles to start the frame and the pair moved to second and third before Josh Adams had a RBI ground out and Kentrell Dewitt contributed a sac fly.

In the fifth inning, the Scrappers tacked on two more runs on a Aaron Siliga double and a ground out by Henry Dunn.

The Jammers would stay within striking distance by getting one of the runs back in the bottom of the frame. Smith led off with a single and moved to third on a two-base fielding error by the left fielder. He scored on a fielder's choice by Austin Barnes to cut the advantage to two.

After doing nothing in the sixth inning, the Jammers would break through in the seventh.

Ryan Goetz led off with a bloop single to left and Smith walked. Barnes followed with a single to load up the bases before Dayleg roped his two-run single to knot up the score. Jobduan Morales grounded in to a double play, but it scored Barnes from third to give the Jammers the lead for the first time in the game.

After retiring seven of the first eight batters he faced, Frankie Reed allowed a double to Barr with one out in the Mahoning Valley half of the ninth inning. Lavisky reached on an error to put the go-ahead run on base, but he got the next two batters out to escape the jam and earn his first win of the season after throwing three scoreless innings.

It will be another first-place showdown on Tuesday night when the Batavia Muckdogs visit the Jammers at 7:05 p.m.
