Auburn Doubledays News Release
Batavia, NY - Sunday night was a night to forget for the Auburn Doubledays.
Not only did the Doubledays give up a season high 15 hits to their opponent, they also struggled to hit in key situations going 1 for 14 with men in scoring position, stranding 14 base-runners in a five-run defeat to the Batavia Muckdogs.
Sunday night's loss brings the Doubledays losing streak to four, tying their previous high for consecutive losses from earlier in the season.
Batavia got things started early in the contest, scoring three runs within the first three innings to jump out to the three-run advantage. Auburn got one back in the fourth on an RBI hit by Carlos Alvarez but saw things unravel when the Muckdogs scored three in the fifth off starter Manny Rodriguez and reliever Alex Kreis.
Rodriguez worked four and two-thirds innings, allowing five earned runs on eight hits, taking his second loss of the season. Kreis went an inning and one-third of relief allowing a run on three hits, and Manuel Rivera gave up two earned runs in his two innings of work.
The Doubledays added a couple runs late on a sacrifice fly by Connor Rowe in the 8th inning and an RBI hit by Carlos Alvarez in the ninth, but it wasn't enough in the 9-3 loss.
Offensively, the Doubledays were led by two-hit performances from Caleb Ramsey, Matt Skole, and Carlos Alvarez. Alvarez had the only extra-base hit of the game for the Doubledays, a double in the fourth inning.
Auburn returns home on Monday night to meet the Muckdogs in the final game of the three-game series with first pitch scheduled for 7:05pm. Fans are invited to take part in "Monday Madness" at Falcon Park by receiving two general admission tickets, two hot dogs, two bags of chips, and two sodas for just $18.
