Tigers Slay Wheat Kings

Medicine Hat Tigers News Release

Medicine Hat, AB - The Medicine Hat Tigers got back in the win column Saturday night at Co-op Place, dispatching the Brandon Wheat Kings 5-1.

The Tigers got on the Wheat Kings early and often in the 1st period as Reid Andresen (Saskatoon, SK) would go to the net on a four on four situation thanks to a Tyler Mackenzie (Red Deer, AB) shot and Brayden Boehm (Nanaimo, BC) tally a secondary assist. Medicine Hat kept coming as the Tiger power play would work on the end of a 5 on 3 as Owen MacNeil (Calgary, AB) one times a Dru Krebs (Okotoks, AB) pass at the side of the Brandon net to make it 2-0, Pasha Bocharov (Escondido, CA) will add an assist on the sequence. But Bocharov wasn't done in the period as for the second time in the period, a defenceman goes to the net and nets a shorthanded goal thanks to the Tiger defender as Bocharov notches his second of the season thanks to a great effort by Hunter St. Martin (Edmonton, AB) & Shane Smith (Cessford, AB)

The second period would see the game get into a strategic mindset by both clubs drawing a scoreless 2nd stanza giving the Tigers a 3-0 lead heading to the third.

Brandon would catch a break on a power play in the third period to make things interesting at 9:54 as Brett Hyland would break Beckett Langkow's (Vegreville, AB) shutout bid at 9:54. But the Tigers would put the final touches on their 4th win of the season thanks to a pair of power play goals from Brenden Lee (Seattle, WA) for his team leading 6th goal of the season, all of Lee's goals have come on a Tiger powerplay this season to make it 4-1 unassisted. Brayden Boehm would answer on the powerplay as well as he bats his own shot off a rebound of Wheat Kings goaltender Nicolas Jones for his 4th of the season and finishing off the scoring for Medicine Hat Saturday.

Beckett Langkow made 22 saves for the win in his 10th straight start of the season. The Tigers power play was red hot going 3/8 on the night while killing 4/5 of the penalties assessed to them.

Medicine Hat moves into third in the Central Division standings following the win just two points back of Lethbridge for 2nd in the division at the conclusion of Saturday night's WHL action and can improve on that as they welcome the Saskatoon Blades to Co-op Place Friday October 28.
