Tigers Rally for Seven in a Row, Defeat Oil Kings 7-4

Medicine Hat, AB - After falling 4-0 after the first period, the Medicine Hat Tigers would score seven unanswered goals on route to a 7-4 triumph over the Edmonton Oil Kings Friday night.

The Oil Kings got on the Tigers early as 17 second into the game, Rilen Kovacevic would bang home his 7th of the season to give Edmonton a 1-0 lead. The Oil Kings would continue to push the Tigers as on a the power play Skyler Bruce would get his 2nd of the season at 7:10 to push their lead to 2-0. Edmonton wasn't done there on a series of errors from the Tigers would end up on Adam Jecho's 6th of the season shortly after at 10:30 to give the Oil Kings full control at 3-0. The 4th goal for the Oil Kings would come at 14:13 as Blade Fiddler would on a scramble give the Oil Kings a four goal lead heading to the 2nd.

Tigers goaltender Evan May (Nanaimo, BC) would be relieved by Zach Zahara (Rockyview County, AB) in the 1st.

Off to the second period where the Tigers would finally get through to the Oil Kings as on the power play Gavin McKenna (Whitehorse, YT) would score his 6th of the season from Oasiz Wiesblatt at 8:09 to get the Tigers on the board.

4:33 later, the Tigers struck again after a great save by Zach Zahara at the Medicine Hat end, which would be followed up a passing play between Andrew Basha (Calgary, AB) and Cayden Lindstrom (Chetwynd, BC) finished off by Lindstrom for his team leading 11th goal of the season to cut the Edmonton lead to 4-2. Rhett Parsons (Cremona, AB) adds on the scoresheet for the Tigers. Both teams would exchange chances late add to their totals but it would stand after two with an Edmonton 4-2 lead heading to the third.

In the final frame, the Tigers would find their will to win as a part of five goals in the 3rd period started as Cayden Lindstrom would continue his handy work of finding the back of the net for his second of the night at 8:09 from captain Tyler MacKenzie (Red Deer, AB). Medicine Hat would tie things up at 4-4 on another power play goal from Gavin McKenna at 6:16 as Oasiz Wiesblatt & Lindstrom would draw assists on the game tying goal.

Then the captain would score his first WHL hat-trick and make it a natural hat-trick as Vasyl Spilka (Liberec, CZE) & Shane Smith (Cessford, AB) would make it 5-4 at 9:04 then 41 seconds it would be Mackenzie again from Lindstrom & Andresen. Then with the net empty the captain would finish things off from Andrew Basha (Calgary, AB) & Bogdans Hodass (Jelgava, LAT) at 18:13.

Despite the early deficit the Tigers would bank on their power play going 2/7, while the penalty kill would finish 7/8.

Next up for the Tigers is a match-up Saturday night against the Seattle Thunderbirds as the 2023 WHL Champions make their way to Medicine Hat for the first time in four years.
