Back On The Horse
Friday didn't yield the result the Hawks wanted, as Red Deer took a 2-1 win in a tightly contested battle. But while Portland's eight-game win streak came to an end, they have a prime opportunity to kick off a new one tonight at Rogers Place against the struggling Oil Kings. It's the beauty of this road trip; no matter the result of a given game, another is coming in short order, so turning the page quickly is key.
Last Time We Met
Portland and Edmonton faced off at the VMC last October in a 5-2 win for the Winterhawks. Aidan Litke - who was actually traded to Edmonton over the summer - Josh Zakreski, Luca Cagnoni and Luke Schelter each scored for the Hawks, while Carson Golder and Marshall Finnie lit the lamp for the Oil Kings.
Going back even further, the teams' last meeting at Rogers Place came nearly 1,500 days ago in October 2019. Jack O'Brien and James Stefan are the only current Hawks who took part in that tilt, a 2-1 shootout win for the Oil Kings.
Part II of III
Adding a wrinkle to the start of the Alberta swing is the team's first three-in-three of the season. Following Friday's physical contest in Red Deer, the Hawks are slated to head to Edmonton this afternoon ahead of tonight's game, and will then depart for Calgary immediately following its conclusion. Despite the schedule congestion, keeping focus on one game at a time is key, and Portland will certainly be keen to grab early control of the middle contest as the team hunts win #1 on the road trip.
