Matchup Notes

Tonight marks the first and only meeting this season between the Oil Kings and Winterhawks.

Portland's last visit to Rogers Place was October 13, 2019 (1,476 days ago), a game in which the Oil Kings won 2-1 in a shootout. Only two players from that game remain on either team's current roster with both being Winterhawks: Jack O'Brien and James Stefan.

Heading into their Central Division road trip, the Winterhawks have won eight straight games and hold the best record in the U.S. Division.

All-time the Oil Kings and Winterhawks have faced each other 14 times in the regular season with each team winning seven of those games. The Oil Kings are 5-2-0-0 all-time at home against the Winterhawks in the regular season.

Coming In

The Oil Kings are looking to snap out of an eight-game losing streak after dropping a heartbreaking 7-4 decision last night in Medicine Hat to the Tigers.

The Oil Kings came out of the gates firing jumping out to a 4-0 lead in the first period thanks to goals from Rilen Kovacevic, his team leading seventh of the season, Skyler Bruce, his first as an Oil King, Adam Jecho and Blake Fiddler, his first career WHL goal. But the high-flying Tigers would inch their way back into contention thanks to a pair of second period goals before completely taking over the game in the third with a five-goal outburst, including a natural hat-trick from their Captain, Tyler MacKenzie.

The Winterhawks enter play tonight coming off a 2-1 loss in Red Deer to open their six-game Central Division swing, it was their first loss since their season opener against the Wenatchee Wild, ending an impressive eight-game win streak.

In the loss, the Winterhawks outshot the Rebels by a count of 36-24 but Kyle Chyzowski would be the only Winterhawk to solve Kyle Kelsey.

Sitting at 8-2-0-0 on the season, the Winterhawks sit atop the WHL's U.S. Division.
