Tigers Goaltender McCallum Named Kal Tire WHL Rookie of the Week

Calgary, Alta. - The Western Hockey League announced today Medicine Hat Tigers goaltender Ethan McCallum has been named Kal Tire WHL Rookie of the Week for the week ending November 5, 2023.

The 17-year-old product of Brandon, Man., is the first goaltender to be named Kal Tire WHL Rookie of the Week this season. McCallum recorded a victory, along with a 1.00 goals-against average and .967 save percentage in his lone appearance this past week.

The 6-foot-4, 190-pound McCallum was the star of the show Saturday, November 4, making 29 saves on 30 shots as the Tigers defeated the Everett Silvertips by a score of 4-1. McCallum made 12 saves in each of the first and second periods, before bringing the win home with another five saves in the third period. He was named First Star of the game for his performance.

Saturday's triumph represented the first-career WHL win for McCallum, who was originally selected by the Tigers in the second round (39th overall) of the 2021 WHL Prospects Draft.

In two career WHL appearances, McCallum is 1-1-0-0 with a 3.00 GAA and .909 SV%. McCallum made his WHL debut Wednesday, October 4 at Regina.

Ethan McCallum and the Medicine Hat Tigers return to action Friday, November 10 (6 p.m. MT) when they visit the Moose Jaw Warriors at the Moose Jaw Events Centre.
