Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

In his first season in a Wheat Kings sweater, Roger McQueen picked up four goals and 14 points in 55 games as a 16-year-old rookie. With a year of experience under his belt, he's come out stronger this season, picking up more goals than that just in the month of October.

With five goals and 11 points in 11 games played, McQueen was named the Wheat Kings' Player of the Month for October, presented by Compass Credit Union. He was quick to defer credit to his linemates when asked about his success.

"It's a good power play that's really been helping out, and the guys I've been playing with are unreal," McQueen said. "(Rylen) Roersma, (Nate Danielson), (Dominik Petr) have been unreal so it's been easy to play with those guys. It's nice to play with good players, and when you play with good players, usually it goes your way."

In particular, McQueen has played most games this season with Roersma. He started the season on a line with he and Petr, and has lately been skating on the right wing with Danielson in the middle and Roersma on the left.

"He's such a great guy, too and when you're a good guy off the ice it helps you on the ice to feel more comfortable," said McQueen. "He's a great player, he's always in the right spot, and he seems to find me lots, which is nice."

Size has always been an asset for McQueen, and it became even more of one between the end of last season and the start of this one. McQueen got taller, now standing just over 6-foot-5, and he's been using that size to great effect, getting himself in position in front of the net.

"Size definitely helps, but it's also just another year under my belt that's a big thing for me," McQueen said. "Size and getting some weight on really helped over the offseason."

McQueen added it helped having Danielson back in the locker room, especially since Danielson has seen what it takes to succeed at the next level.
