Medicine Hat Tigers News Release

Lethbridge, AB - A three goal first period proved to be more than enough for the Lethbridge Hurricanes at home, defeating the Medicine Hat Tigers 5-1 Wednesday night.

After a good start to the first with opportunities for the Tigers, the Hurricanes would open the scoring at 5:03 as Leo Braillard would beat Tigers goaltender Jordan Switzer (Edmonton, AB) to make it 1-0 Lethbridge. Logan Wormald would then get involved late in the first at 14:10 as on a 3 on 2 solves Switzer for his 17th of the season. He'd then follow up with his second of the period at 16:27 which would unfortunately chase Switzer from the Tigers net and Zach Zahara (Rockyview, AB) would come in relief. Lethbridge would take that 3-0 lead to the first while being outshot 11-7 in the period.

Despite a handful of chances from the Tigers in the second period, the Tigers couldn't solve Harrison Meneghin and the Tigers would trail by the same 3-0 score after two periods of play. Medicine Hat would kill off two penalties in that second period while not receiving a man-advantage through the first 40 minutes.

Into the third period, the Tigers could muster any offence and eventually at 10:18, the Hurricanes would score again as Dylan Sydor would one-time the only puck to get past Zach Zahara and make it a 4-0 Lethbridge lead. Exactly one minute later, Reid Andresen (Saskatoon, SK) would solve Meneghin for his 7th of the season from Andrew Basha (Calgary, AB) at 11:18.

Late in the third, The Tigers would try to rally with the empty net but Lethbridge would counter with Carter Dereniwsky would pot the final goal of the night at 18:31 to give the Hurricanes a 5-1 triumph over the Tigers.

With the loss, the Tigers drop their record to 35-20-5-2 and will turn their attention to the Saskatoon Blades Friday night at the SaskTel Centre.
