The Portland Winter Hawks outshoot the Medicine Hat Tigers on Saturday night at the Memorial Coliseum, but the Tigers escape with the victory, defeating the Winter Hawks by a score of 5-3.
Portland (8-24-1-0, 17 points) got 34 shots on net while holding Medicine Hat (20-9-3-3, 46 points) to just 19.
Colton Grant scored twice for the Tigers, including the game winner with nine minutes remaining in the third period. Brennan Bosch, Mark Isherwood and Jace Coyle added single goals for Medicine Hat.
Portland got power play goals from Travis Ehrhardt and Radim Valchar and an even strength goal for Brett Ponich, his first career WHL goal. Chris Francis added two assists to give five assists in his last three games.
On special teams, the Hawks went 2 for 4 on the power play while Medicine Hat finished 0 for 1.
Next up, the Winter Hawks are off for their holiday break, returning to take on the Seattle Thunderbirds at the Key Arena in Seattle on Saturday, December 27.
