Spokane Chiefs News Release

James Reid earned his second career shutout after stopping 26 shots in a 1-0 win over the Seattle Thunderbirds on Friday night in the Spokane Arena. Reid was making his fifth career start and pushed his record to 4-0-0-1 as the Chiefs won their 20th game of the season and third in a row. Spokane's 43 points are three points behind the idle Tri-City Americans for first place in the U.S. Division.

Jared Cowen's fifth goal of the season came on the power play and was a slap shot from just inside the blueline that snuck just inside the left post. Brenden Kichton and Levko Koper assisted on the 17-year- old's first game winner of the season. The Chiefs were 1-5 on the penalty kill.

Reid made eight stops in each of the first and third periods and 10 in the second and helped Spokane go 4-4 on the penalty kill. The rookie was making his first start since a 6-2 win on November 21st versus the Moose Jaw Warriors. Spokane called up Alex Wright from Prince George of the BCHL to back-up Reid while Dustin Tokarski, the WHL's top goaltender, is away at Team Canada's Selection Camp.

Spokane has posted back-to-back 1-0 victories after Tuesday night's win over the Chilliwack Bruins with Tokarski in net. It is the second time this season the Chiefs have had back-to-back shutouts and sixth time this year Spokane has not allowed a goal. With 64 goals allowed in 32 games, the Chiefs are tops in goals against in the WHL.

The Chiefs and Thunderbirds will play the second half of a two-game series on Saturday night on the Re-Gift Exchange presented by 93.7 the Cat and KREM 2.

Tickets to all home games are available by calling the Chiefs office at (509) 535-PUCK or TicketsWest at (800) 325-SEAT.
