December 7, 2015 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Medicine Hat Tigers News Release

Medicine Hat, AB - After many travelled kilometers and long nights, the Medicine Hat Tigers pulled into the Sandman Centre looking to spoil the Kamloops Blazers' Teddy Bear Toss night. Medicine Hat was also on a 6 game losing streak, the longest since the 2001 campaign.

Medicine Hat came out flying in the first period as it looked like Kamloops was unable to control the speed and agility the Tigers have this season. The Tigers power play had been good on the road trip, creating chances and having sustained pressure. Finally, Cole Sanford would break through after the Blazers were caught with too many men on the ice, firing home his 12th of the year past Connor Ingram. Moments later Max Gerlach parked himself in front of the net and got a piece of the David Quenneville point shot to give the Tabbies an early 2-0 lead. The Tigers lead for the first time on the road trip. Just before the period ended however, Jermaine Loewen got the iconic 'Teddy Bear Goal' for the Blazers, sending the bears onto the ice and cutting into the lead, 2-1.

The second period didn't start the way the Tigers wanted as it looked like the odds were against them when Kamloops scored back to back goals in the frame. It started when Deven Sideroff and Gage Quinney broke in on a 2 on 1 shorthanded and put the puck past a sprawling Mack Shields to tie the game at 2-2. Then another special teams opportunity for the Blazers saw Sideroff again cash in, this time on the power play for his 6th of the season, giving the Blazers a 3-2 lead just past the midway point in the game.

Medicine Hat didn't back down however as it saw the duo of Gerlach and linemate Mason Shaw captialize on their chance when Shaw gave a beautiful pass to Gerlach who made no mistake for his team leading 13th goal of the season. Then just 53 seconds later Mark Rassell potted his 5th of the year before the period could end and before you could blink the Tigers had a 4-3 lead heading into the final frame.

The next goal was crucial for Medicine Hat as they looked to snap their 6 game losing streak. Just 3 minutes into the frame Rassell was recipient of a great cross crease pass from linemate Sanford and it extended the lead to 5-3. Mack Shields would be brilliant down the stretch as the Tabbies killed off a 4 minute power play. In total Shields stopped 30 of 34 shots in the game to earn his 5th victory on the year, snapping the Tigers losing streak and sending the boys home with a happy bus.

THREE STARS OF THE GAME:

1. MAX GERLACH - MH - (2G)

2. DAVID QUENNEVILLE - MH - (2A)

3. DEVEN SIDEROFF - KAM - (2G, 1A)
