Medicine Hat, AB -- The Medicine Hat Tigers had some fun on Tuesday night with the 5th annual Skills Competition presented by ATB Financial. The Tigers competed in 6 different events and sent the 300+ fans on a cold wintery night home entertained and happy with a great showing of skill and speed.

In the night's first event, the team's were tasked with putting their fastest skaters against each other to determine who actually is the fastest skater on the team.
Heat 1: Bradley vs. Shaw - Winner: Bradley
Heat 2: Hamblin vs. Butcher - Winner: Butcher
Heat 3: Jevne vs. Preziuso - Winner: Preziuso
Heat 4 (2 fastest times): Bradley vs. Preziuso - Winner: Bradley
Team Owre wins the Fastest Skater competition with a time of 14.84 seconds
The night's second event was a showcase of skill and talent in the Accuracy Shot, shooting down 4 targets in the quickest amount of time and least amount of pucks. Each player had 10 pucks to knock down the 4 targets.
Stanton: 1/10 pucks - 37.25 sec  Butcher: 4/10 pucks - 29.17 sec
Bradley: 4/8 pucks - 22.44 sec Mowbray: 4/5 pucks - 14.75 sec
Kirichenko: 3/10 pucks - 27.03 sec Sanford: 4/6 pucks - 15.13 sec
Team Butcher wins the Accuracy Shot competition with Alex Mowbray's 5 pucks in 14.75 seconds.
In one of two marquee events on this night, the Hardest Shot competition was led by potential winner David Quenneville, who was in for a surprise Tuesday as the compeition was stiff. This year the contestants had 2 shots to try and break the 100mph barrier.

Team Butcher wins the Hardest Shot Competition with Connor Clouston's 94mph blast.
In one of the unique events of the night, the two teams were setup in the Team Relay, an event which puts both agility and stickhandling to the test. There were 2 groups (1 from each team) in this event made up of 5 players each. The fastest time was the winner.
Schultz, Stanton, Forrest, Hamblin: 52.09 sec
Heid, Fantillo, Shaw, Gerlach: 57.18 sec
Team Owre won the Team Relay competition with a total time of 52.09 seconds.
The other marquee event of the competition, the Showtime Shootout which was highlighted last season by a "video game" goal by Mark Rassell. Rassell was the only returning defending champion this year. Each player had 2 chances to impress the judges and record the highest scores possible (out of 30 points per round).
Rassell: 14, 22 = 36 pts  Quenneville: 12.5, 21 = 33.5 pts
Forrest: 10, 28 = 38 pts  Gerlach: 17, 4.5 = 21.5 pts
Owre: 18, 24.5 = 42.5 pts  Fantillo: 21.5, 15 = 36.5 pts
Team Owre wins the Showtime Shootout with Captain Owre's 42.5 points.
The final event of the night was a fun Elimination Shootout, a time where both teams are sent at the goalie in an attempt to be the last player standing.

Team Butcher wins the Elimination Shootout by Max Gerlach being the last person standing, scoring in 2 of 4 rounds of the competition, beating Clayton Kirichenko.
The overall winner of the competition was Team Butcher who needed the last event to pick up the annual trophy as it was a back and forth competition.
Another victory was had on this night as the Tiger fans in attendance help raise $2159 to the MS Society of Canada! Thank you!
