Game Story

After a run of opening the scoring, the Pats surrendered the first goal in Edmonton. With an Oil Kings powerplay dwindling, Kole Gable got open in the slot and rifled a shot past Tyler Brown. The Pats tied things up a couple minutes later when Connor Hobbs unleashed a one-timer from the point that found the back of the net through the five-hole of Patrick Dea. Just 29 seconds later Jordan Dawson's seeing-eye shot found its way off a leg, through a crowd in front of the Pats net and to the top corner of the goal for a 2-1 Oil Kings lead. The Pats powerplay responded again as Hobbs pounced on a loose puck, evaded an Oil Kings defender and snapped his second of the game past Dea. That goal left the score at 2-2 after the first.

It took 16:25 of the period for a team to break the tie. After a quick swap at the top of the Pats zone by Brett Pollock and Dysin Mayo, Lane Bauer was wide open in front for Mayo to hit him with a pass allowing the forward to bury his thirteenth of the year. Bauer struck again with just seconds left in the period. A quick passing play off the rush was nearly broken up by Adam Brooks, but Bauer found the puck and whipped a backhand around Brown to put the hosts ahead 4-2 going to the third period.

A wild third period opened with the Oil Kings adding to their lead. Tyler Robertson grabbed a rebound in front of Brown and shoveled it to the back of the net to put Edmonton up by three. The goal ended Brown's night as Jordan Hollett came into the game. Following a delay to sort out a host of penalties following the goal, Austin Wagner got free and cut the lead back to two with a shorthanded marker. With the Pats pressing, a blocked shot turned into a Brett Pollock breakaway and the 19-year old went to the backhand to give the Oil Kings a 6-3 advantage. The Blue and White continued to show some life as Adam Brooks cashed in on the powerplay to put the Pats within a 6-4 mark. Regina pushed late, but couldn't claw any closer as the Pats fell by a 6-4 score.
