Brandon, MB. - The Brandon Wheat Kings have completed their second Western Hockey League trade of the day.

Wheat Kings' General Manager and Head Coach Kelly McCrimmon has announced that defenceman Mark Taraschuk has been traded to the Swift Current Broncos in exchange for Wawanesa product Jordan Thomson.

A former first round bantam draft choice (4th overall) of the Kamloops Blazers in the 2011 WHL Bantam Draft, the 19-year old Thomson is currently in his fourth WHL season and has scored two goals and six points in 24 games for the Broncos this year.

During his WHL career that has also featured a stop in Saskatoon, the 5'11" 192 lb blueliner has 54 points, including twelve goals in 159 games.

A graduate of the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League, Thomson scored eight goals and 45 points in 75 games as a member of the Southwest Cougars from 2010-2012.

A 2-time Manitoba AAA Midget League Champion with the Winnipeg Wild, Taraschuk was in his second season with the Wheat Kings and had four assists in 18 games this season, after collecting six helpers in 32 games for Brandon during the 2014-15 campaign.

Taraschuk was a sixth round draft choice of the Wheat Kings in 2012.

Thomson is expected to join the Wheat Kings immediately and could be in the lineup this weekend when they play Lethbridge and Medicine Hat in a 2-game Alberta road trip.

Earlier today, Brandon sent 20-year old forward Luke Harrison to the Prince George Cougars for a ninth round pick in the 2016 WHL bantam draft. Harrison had two goals in six games with Brandon this season.

As a result of today's moves, the Wheat Kings have 23 players on their active roster - fourteen forwards, 7 defencemen and two goalkeepers.

Brandon's next home game is a week from Friday - December 4th - when the Wheat Kings host the Regina Pats at Westman Place.
